About NC ECHO Continuing Education Digitization & Metadata Grant Programs K-12 Survey and Final Report

North Carolina Exploring Cultural Heritage Online is the World Wide Web's doorway to the special collections of North Carolina's libraries, archives, museums, historic sites, and other cultural institutions.

NC ECHO promotes the use of digital technologies to broaden and enhance access to North Carolina's cultural heritage and fosters collaboration among all of the state's cultural resource institutions through grant funding, education and training opportunities and digitization activities.

NC ECHO identified every institution in the state open to the public and holding a permanent non-living collection of unique materials. The project has identified nearly 1,000 of these cultural heritage institutions including archives, library special collections, art museums and arts councils, historic house museums, history museums, state historic sites and state parks. NC ECHO partner institutions vary in type, size, budget and location but they are united in their mission to protect the artifacts and documents that tell the story of our state’s heritage while allowing users access to collections.
