Wayne County Museum

The Wayne County Museum seeks to collect and exhibit artifacts and other material relating to the history of Goldsboro and Wayne County. The museum is located in an historic building constructed in 1927 for the Goldsboro Women's Club. Used as a USO during WWII, the museum houses collections interpreting topics including the history of the building, Wayne County's involvement in the Civil War, WWI, WWII, Korea, and Vietnam, agriculture and industry in Wayne County, and Native American culture in the area.

Charles B. Aycock Birthplace State Historic Site
The Gov. Charles B. Aycock Birthplace State Historic Site seeks to preserve and interpret the homestead in which Gov. Aycock was born in 1859 and to a lesser extent the life of Aycock, the Education Governor. The site includes the mid-nineteenth century house, kitchen, and outbuildings, a corn barn and stables complete with sheep and fowl, and a one-room c.1890's schoolhouse representing the grass-roots educational revival that was the hallmark of Aycock's administration.

Mount Olive College
Moye Library, Free Will Baptist Historical Collection

Special Collections at Moye Library seeks to acquire and preserve historical material relating to the history of the supporting denomination (Free Will Baptist) and its endeavors in Christian higher education and to serve as a repository for archival materials of the College itself and for various works of art donated to the College.

Wayne Community College
Library

The Genealogy Collection consists of more than 400 books and 700 reels of microfilm, including all available North Carolina census records from 1790 through 1910. Varying numbers of county materials (court records, record of deeds, wills and estate papers) are available for the following counties: Chowan, Bertie, Bute, Craven, Dobbs, Duplin, Edgecombe, Granville, Greene, Halifax, Johnston, Nash, Northhampton, Sampson, Warren, Wilson, and Wayne. Wayne Community College Library Genealogy Collections seeks to provide users with basic texts for conducting genealogical research in Wayne County and in North Carolina. Other special collection materials include college catalogs, The Renaissance college literary magazine, college scrapbooks dating from the early 1960's through the 1990's, and a college and regional history clipping file arranged by topics.

Old Waynesborough Commission
Waynesborough Historic Village

The purpose of the Old Waynesborough Commission is the discovery, preservation, and dissemination of knowledge about the history of North Carolina, Wayne County, and Waynesborough and to show how boat travel, railroads, and horse drawn vehicles made Waynesborough a major transportation center in the Antebellum South. Waynesborough Historic Village seeks to collect, preserve, exhibit, and interpret historic structures significant to Wayne County and North Carolina.

Arts Council of Wayne County
The mission of the Arts Council of Wayne County is to ensure the arts are a thriving part of the Goldsboro and Wayne County community. This organization has an ever-growing permanent collection of both two- and three-dimensional works of art. Cliffs of the Neuse State Park
Museum

The museum at Cliffs of the Neuse State Park is located near the northern end of the cliffs. Creative dioramas and audio-visuals depict the geology and the natural history of the area. The museum seeks to educate visitors to the park about the natural diversity and history of the cliffs and Neuse River and to encourage good stewardship of these and the rest of North Carolina's natural resources.

Northern Wayne Heritage Museum
North Carolina Cotton Museum

The Northern Wayne Heritage Museum/North Carolina Cotton Museum collects and exhibits artifacts, photographs, and memorabilia centered around the history of Pikeville, northern Wayne County, and the heritage of the North Carolina cotton farmer. The museum also maintains a local history and genealogy collection as well as an exhibit on local veterans.

Fremont Historical Society
Fremont Heritage Museum

The Fremont Heritage Museum seeks to preserve the history of the Fremont Community past and current, to promote interest in this history, and to provide a central location for the exchange of genealogical and historical information. Towards this end, the Fremont Heritage Museum collects, maintains, and displays their growing collection of artifacts, photographs, and printed materials for the enjoyment and education of the public.

Cherry Hospital Museum
The museum interprets the history of Cherry Hospital which opened in 1880 as the North Carolina Asylum for the Colored Insane and served the entire state as a black-only institution until the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Located in the Special Services house on the hosital campus, the museum contains documents, photographs, scrapbooks and artifacts.
