Richmond Hill Law School Historic Park
Richmond Hill is the home of former North Carolina Chief Justice Richmond Mumford Pearson, who served on the North Carolina Supreme Court from 1848, was elected Chief Justice in 1868, and served until his death in 1878. The present house was built in 1861. Pearson taught law privately at Richmond Hill from 1848 until 1878, educating over 1000 lawyers there including several who became governors, congressmen, and judges, and two who became chief justices following in their teacher's footsteps. The grounds around Richmond Hill were known locally as "Logtown" because of the log cabins in which Pearson's students lived that dotted the lanes leading to Richmond Hill.
