National Railroad Museum and Hall of Fame, Inc.
The National Railroad Museum and Hall of Fame seeks to preserve railroad history by collecting and displaying railroad memorabilia, maps, photographs, and a wide variety of artifacts - many specifically concerning the Seaboard Air Line Railway but also numerous items concerning railroads in general - and to promote continued interest in the study of the evolving modern railroad system. Through interpretive exhibits, the museum recreates the time when railroads were the main source of long distance travel and passenger train service was at its zenith. Located since 1976 in the Seaboard Air Line Railway's Hamlet depot, this museum also serves to preserve this wonderful Victorian structure - one of the last of its size and importance in the country.

Rankin Museum of American Heritage
The Rankin Museum of American Heritage is a public, non-profit institution whose purpose is to collect, preserve, exhibit, interpret, and teach about the cultural history, natural history, arts, and science that are part of our American heritage and to show that all ethnic groups have contributed to that rich heritage. The purpose also is to provide cultural enrichment, intellectual stimulation, learning, and pleasure for those who visit.

The Local History Room at Leath Memorial Library collects and makes available to the public published and manuscript material documenting the history of Rockingham, Richmond County, and North Carolina including but not limited to general genealogical and historical reference books and media, county records abstracts, local family histories, family trees, photographs, maps, and original manuscripts.

The genealogy and local history collection works to preserve the local history of Ellerbe and Richmond County and has in particular a cemetery listing of every known gravestone in Richmond County as well as copies of the records of Saron Baptist Church detailing members' births, deaths and marriages from 1826 to 1933.

Richmond County Historical Society, Inc.
Leak-Wall House and Garden
The Richmond County Historical Society seeks to promote the study of the history and rich heritage of the people of Richmond County through the preservation of historically significant structures and locations including the Leak-Wall House and Wall Garden in Rockingham and the Bostic School in Ellerbe. The Society also collects published and archival material concerning Richmond County and engages in a variety of activities to further public awareness of and interest in local history.
