Robeson
Humphrey-Williams-Smith Plantation
The Humphrey-Williams-Smith Plantation, a wonderful interpretation of Greek Revival and Tidewater style architecture, was completed in 1846 for Richard Blount Humphrey on property that had been in continuous family ownership since 1772 and remains so today. Also interpreted on the property are several other structures including the Raft Swamp Post Office, a rare surviving example of a post office that was in service during the Civil War, and the original 1780's-era Humphrey House in which the family lived prior to building the plantation house. The Humphrey-Williams-Smith Plantation is open to the public by appointment and for special and seasonal events.
