Korner's Folly Foundation
Korner's Folly House Museum

Famous as a painter of Bull Durham bulls across the South, Jule Gilmer Korner began to build Korner's Folly in 1878. Completed in 1880, this unusual, eclectic house became home to the Korner (or Kerner) family. The design of the home reportedly caused a neighbor farmer, strolling by one day as the structure rose into the sky, to comment, "That will surely be Jule Korner's folly." The home boasts fifteen fireplaces of differing designs of American Encaustic Tiles, a huge ball room, and a third floor theater complete with a stage and seating for seventy-five (or more). The eccentric structure offers 22 rooms spread out over three floors and seven levels, with ceiling heights ranging from six feet to 25 feet, and no two identical doors. Korner's Folly is today open to the public for individual and group tours. Superlatives fail; from tile to woodwork, brick to decorative murals by German master Caesar Milch, the Folly is truly like no other home in the world.

Cedar Creek Pottery and Gallery
Museum of American Pottery

The Museum of American Pottery came into being as a result of an exhibit called "Old Pots" at Cedar Creek Gallery in the 1970's. This exhibit of pots was initially scheduled to run for 30 days, but the public response was so great that the exhibit became a permanent feature. The Museum of American Pottery seeks to honor family and studio potters who, through their work, have made a significant contribution to the arts; to establish a permanent collection, open to the public, of historic and contemporary pottery by family and studio potters; to establish a library of books, magazines, articles, videos, and photos of pottery and potters from 1700 to the present; to provide funds for research and opportunities for pottery students to further their studies; and to make sure that examples of work by these potters are preserved for future generations.

Thomas Wolfe Memorial
The author Thomas Wolfe (1900-1938) spent his childhood and adolescence in Asheville, North Carolina. His mother's boardinghouse is now the Thomas Wolfe Memorial. Named "Old Kentucky Home" by a previous owner, the rambling Victorian structure was immortalized by Wolfe as "Dixieland" in his epic autobiographical novel, "Look Homeward, Angel". The house is restored to look as it did in the early 20th century when young Tom Wolfe and Mrs. Wolfe's boarders shared a roof. The Visitor Center houses an exhibit hall featuring personal effects from the Wolfe family home, Wolfe's New York City apartment, and his father's stonecutting shop. Tours of the Memorial are offered at regular times and depart from the Visitor Center.

Fayetteville Museum of Art
The Fayetteville Museum of Art was founded in 1971. Originally housed in downtown Fayetteville's historic Market House, the Museum moved in 1978 to its present facility that was the first building in the State of North Carolina designed and built as an Art Museum. In addition to the modern facility that includes two galleries, classrooms, studio space, an Art Reference & Slide Lending Library, and a Museum Store, the Museum's 5.8 acre grounds and pond give the Fayetteville community a place to gather for relaxation. The park-like setting is an oasis in the midst of a heavily trafficked area; it is also utilized for large-scale sculpture displays, art festivals and public concerts. The Museum has recently begun a campaign to build a new MoA in Fayetteville's Festival Park. The designer of the project is world reknowned architect Enrique Norten. Please visit our website to see our visionary design and to find out how to be a part of our campaign!

Lanier Library
In the winter of 1889 when Tryon, NC, was a village of red clay roads and only twenty-four houses, five ladies met and formed a club to encourage the civic and educational welfare of the community and to promote and support a library. Named for poet Sidney Lanier whose last months of life were spent in Tryon, the library's first books were two volumes of his poems, a gift from his widow, Mary Lanier. This library grew from that beginning and has occupied the same building since 1910. The Lanier Library is a private membership, not-for-profit organization. It is open to the public but only members may check out books. Special collections include the Sidney Lanier collection of his works and memorabilia, the Morgan Memorial Collection of works of the performing and creative arts, and an impressive growing collection of other art books.
