Penderlea Farms was the first of many national New Deal efforts to establish subsistence homesteading as a way to sustain American families during the Great Depression.

One bedroom of the house contains exhibits honoring the legacy of FDR and interpreting the impact of the New Deal and WWII on the Penderlea Farms community.

Collections at the Penderlea Homestead Museum include a large number of photographs of Penderlea homesteaders and many newspapers and articles that appeared locally concerning the community and its citizens. Most items have been donated by members of the community.
