An old covered wagon, much like the ones that originally moved many families into the area. A sign next to the wagon reads, "This Carolina Wagon, built about 1880 by the Nissen Wagon Works of Winston-Salem, is about half the size of the better-known Conestoga, developed in eastern Pennsylvania. The smaller size was more navigable on the narrow, winding roads of the mountain region… Such a wagon was relatively expensive, between $70 and $85 in 1883."
